Some always decide more than others, but it is only when the hierarchy is clear that there is accountability. In 1983, William Golding won the Nobel Prize in Literature. My father gave me The Lord of the Flies. I was only nine years old but recognised patterns of behaviour in the novel from my own life. "Just like this", I thought, "is how children react when there is no sensible adult to control things."
Authority Keeps Power in Check
That one, as so often in British culture, lashes out at the powers that be does not necessarily mean that one wants to tear down all free and historical authorities. On the contrary, this is needed to balance the power.
